James Morrison is the Artistic Director of the Queensland Music Festival and one would expect a little bit of jazz to percolate through the program.

One of the highlights of the Festival will include world-renowned pianist Marian Petrescu honouring a true jazz legend in A Tribute to Oscar Peterson.

“It’s not often you get to even see someone of Marian’s calibre, let alone work with them” Morrison said. “Marian is in a class of his own".

“We hope to truly honour Oscar Peterson and his immeasurable contribution to jazz through combining stunning musical performance with a spoken narrative of Oscar’s journey, to really bring his story to life on stage,” he said.

Named “the Horowitz of Jazz Piano” by distinguished French pianist and composer Martial Solal, Petresu will unleash his dazzling technique and dynamic interpretations on Mackay

Plus the closing performance The Meeting will include multi-instrumentalist James Morrison, master percussionist David Jones and vocalist extraordinaire Darren Percival converge on the Brisbane Powerhouse to deliver something marvellous, made up and musically magnificent.

QMF Artistic Director James Morrison is exhilarated in anticipation of this performance as he has no idea what will be delivered on stage on the night.

“My extremely talented musical mates have something unique to bring to the stage. I can’t wait to see what happens when the three of us get together,” Morrison said.

Along with the Queensland Music Festival Rhythm Section of Gordon Rytmeister (drums), Phil Stack (bass) and Jim Kelly (guitar), Morrison, Jones and Percival promise a night of surprise, dexterity and high entertainment.
