‘It’s been said a man who doesn’t create is like a cloud that never rains. That could never be said about Dave – he poured his creative and beautiful music over us all his life.” Vince Jones

Zac Hurren (Brisbane) and Julien Wilson (Melbourne) respective winners of the National Jazz Award in 1994 and 2009 are touring Australia in January to play a series of tribute concerts for their friend and muse David Ades.

Hurren and Wilson both have strong personal and musical connections with Ades, a legend of Australian saxophone. His majestic phrases, searing tone and glorious melodies dismiss any notions of right or wrong and his attitude and commitment to the music continue to be an inspiration to many.

His playing epitomises honesty, singularity and courage. David tragically lost his battle with lung cancer in November 2013. Incredibly, only weeks before he died, he recorded an album of new material in New York. That album A LIFE IN A DAY has now been released through Wilson’s label Lionsharecords. Read review here

‘There was a life force to Dave’s playing that exploded from the bell of his saxophone and enveloped the room. He made the alto saxophone sound bigger than it had a right to be, and he knew that one played music for keeps, or shouldn’t play at all. His passing is a massive loss to Oz music.’ John Shand, SMH
