The greatest living jazz singer is esteemed jazz guitarist Herb Ellis’ verdict of Nancy King.

Considered the heiress apparent to Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy King is one of the few improvisers in vocal jazz to master the vocabulary.

For over three decades the Oregon based jazz diva has won the admiration of discriminating musicians for her sophisticated scatting, flawless ear and powerful ability to dizzy her audiences with romance and humour. Nancy has performed with many legendary jazz figures including John Handy, Ralph Towner and Leroy Vinnegar, toured throughout Europe with Ray Brown and performed at the Royal Albert Hall in collaboration with Elvis Costello and Deborah Harry.

She has recorded over nine albums as leader and received a five star review from Downbeat Magazine for her duet recordings ‘Impending Bloom’ & ‘Potato Radio’ with Glen Moore (bassist from internationally acclaimed ensemble Oregon). Nancy also performs on two Ray Brown CD’s including ‘Some Of My Best Friends Are Singers’ which also features vocalists Diana Krall, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Etta Jones.

Nancy has performed at festivals in Israel, Holland, Italy, France, Canada, Bulgaria and the USA, conducted workshops around the globe, and in 2001 was inducted into the Oregon Jazz Society’s Hall of Fame.

Nancy King performs in Brisbane at the Performance Studio 4MBS Classic FM 384 Old Cleveland Road Coorparoo at 8pm on Wednesday 23rd February 2005 accompanied by her musical partner of 27 years pianist Steve Christofferson.
