A new ABC TV series featuring Australian improvising and experimental musicians from a variety of genres begins in May with a performance by The Necks.

SET, which will be hosted by Kate Crawford from the electronic group B(if)tek, will be screened on Tuesdays at 10pm in three batches of three shows.

The ABC says experimental music is neglected by the mainstream media but is “brimming with new ideas, approaches and philosophies about the possibilities of music and sound. SET showcases a wide range of artists from those pushing the boundaries of jazz, pop and classical composition, to makers of unusual and beautiful new instruments.”
