James MorrisonThe Queensland Music Festival Board confirmed today the appointment of internationally renowned jazz musician James Morrison as Artistic Director of the 2013 and 2015 Festivals.

QMF Chair Kate Farrar said the Board is ecstatic at his appointment.
“Not only is James an international star performer, he is also an inspiring and highly experienced music educator who will champion the community development aspects so important to the Festival,” Ms Farrar said.
James Morrison describes his appointment as an extremely exciting new chapter in his life.

“Having spent many years performing all over Queensland, I have an appreciation for the breadth of music this State has to offer,” Mr Morrison said.

“I'm very much looking forward to working with the QMF team to continue and expand the spectacular work for which this Festival is renowned.”

QMF is a biennial state-wide celebration of music with a vision to transform lives through unforgettable musical experiences.

The Festival presents the best of local, national and international talent performing every conceivable style of music to Queenslanders from all walks of life, in Brisbane, and in regional and remote centres from Thursday Island to the Gold Coast.

With record audiences of 178,000 people, sell-out Brisbane shows, and both popular and critical acclaim for world premiere performances, QMF’s most recent Festival in July 2011 featured a staggering 202 events in Brisbane and 34 regional and remote centres throughout Queensland.
