Cooking ClubCelebrating UNESCO’s International Jazz Day

Launceston and Sydney – Sydney is going strong with 15 years of 2ser 107.3’s On The Corner bringing Jazz broadcasts to Sydney.  They celebrate UNESCO's International Jazz Day with a live event (see below for more details).  On the other hand Viktor Zappner is trying to resurrect gigs in Launceston by hosting an event to celebrate International Jazz Day.

Message from Viktor below:

"Dear former members of the JAS NW Tasmania and other jazz friend

The "Golden Age of Jazz" in our region started in 2002 by establishment of the annual 'Devonport Jazz Weekend' in July and the commencement of weekly jazz gigs at 'Maginty's Bar' and 'Stage Door the Cafe' in Burnie. This idyllic period ended in August 2011 with the cancelation of weekly jazz sessions at (then) Maginty's.

In November 2011, during the UNESCO General Conference, the international community proclaimed 30 April as "International Jazz Day"

We want to join in the world-wide celebration of jazz by presenting a concert on Saturday 28 April at the Shearwater Resort. There is no money available up-front for it. Its cost must be covered by door takings. Let people in the region know about this event.  Maybe this will be the first step in gradual resuscitation of regular jazz in our region. This, in combination with the annual 'Devonport Jazz Weekend', would then bring back the "Golden Age of Jazz"."

SYDNEY Celebrates with a live event at broadcast with 2ser 107.3 and On The Corner celebrating UNESCO’s International Jazz Day at The Loft Bar at UTS, at 7:30 p.m., Monday 30th April.

Come early for a jazz parade, led by The Glorious Sousaphonics. Then, On The Corner really gets cooking with free live performances by hot young Sydney band The Cooking Club and National Jazz Award winner, Elana Stone.

On UNESCO's first-ever International Jazz Day, Peter Nelson and Dave Sampson will be on-air, presenting their weekly On the Corner jazz show live from the Loft stage, with live performances from some of Sydney’s hottest young musicians.
