Jazz in the Vines is Going Green October 25th 2008 Tyrrell’s Vineyard Pokolbin Hunter Valley

This year’s Jazz in the Vines will be a cleaner and more environmentally friendly occasion thanks to a new commitment to event waste reduction.

The organisers, Sound Addiction, are committed to reducing the amount of waste going to landfill by encouraging recycling and waste reduction at the event.

It is anticipated that over 8,000 people will attend Jazz in the Vines on October 25th 2008 at Tyrrell’s Vineyard in the Hunter Valley.

Recent surveys show that 87% of event participants support the introduction of recycling and waste reduction programs at public events.

Grant Smith from Sound Addiction said today, “In the past our waste was piled together and just went to the tip. This year, a large percentage will be successfully reduced and recycled because of the programs implemented.

“The public will notice three obvious things at this year’s Jazz in the Vines. All festival goers will receive a wine glass on arrival which will eliminate the need for any plastic disposables to be given out. There will also be a glass-bottle deposit system, where you can claim back your deposit if you return your bottle for recycling and last but not least all items sold by the restaurants will be in environmentally friendly recyclable containers or wrap.”

Mr Smith said that “these efforts coupled with the use of recycled paper in our brochures and posters will all help to reduce and recycle our waste.”

“This is just the first step, we will be refining our programs and introducing new initiatives in the coming years to be able to produce an event with as little impact on the environment as possible. This is a work in progress.”
