Following last week’s graduation recitals at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, the annual Bob Wyllie Scholarship was awarded on Sunday evening, this year to going bassist, Linda Oh.

Linda is a previous James Morrison Scholarship finalist and was the first Australian Jazz Musician to take part in the International Association for Jazz Education Project, “Sisters in Jazz”, performing as part of an International group of female jazz musicians at the IAJE New York conference in 2004.

She is also the third female jazz musician to win this coveted annual award, following in the footsteps of Vanessa Perica (2003) and Jo Druitt (2004).

Do we sense a trend here?

Linda is appearing as part of the group Trilogy which will be providing the rhythm section at the Bluenote on Tuesday 1 November. Look out for a feature article on Linda soon…
