A NEW CD from Perth’s most dynamic big band – MFO – will be launched on April 20th at The Perth Jazz Society (The Charles Hotel, Charles St, North Perth) 8pm.

“Neverever… Well, Maybe Someday”, the bands fourth CD in as many years, was recorded at The Sound Lounge in Sydney during the MFO National Tour (July ’08). A string of swinging gigs in Perth, Fremantle, Brisbane, Lismore, Byron Bay, Canberra, Albury/Wodonga, Melbourne and Adelaide fired up the band for an outstanding performance at The Sound Lounge.

“Their musicianship is flawless, with some impossibly seasoned mature playing… innovative, dynamic, exploiting the power and versatility of the collective… Enchanting, unforgettable, moving music!”
Lloyd Bradford Syke – Australian Stage

“I am really pleased with the recording. It captures the band at their peak on tour. You can really hear the energy and intensity of the guys in full flight” says Mace.

The album’s nine tracks are all original compositions; four from Mace, three by saxophonist by Dan Thorne; and two by trombonist Tilman Robinson.

All MFO’s musicians are noted performers in small group settings around Perth. Their solo talents are used to stunning effect in MFO. This new CD features outstanding performances from…

Tim Jago (guitar) – graduated from WAAPA as `most outstanding jazz student’ in his final year. Finalist in the National Guitar Awards at the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz (2007)

Callum G’Froerer (trumpet) – is only the second-ever Australian winner of the International Clifford Brown/Stan Getz Fellowship. Graduated in 2008 from WAAPA as `most outstanding jazz student’.

It’s the kind of talent that has thrust MFO with its, dynamic originality, traditional `big band’ brass sound and high energy, entertaining performances into the forefront of the national jazz scene and gathered international interest.

“Mace Francis deserves recognition as a big band leader with his own vision and his own sound.”
Bill Donaldson – Cadence Magazine (USA)

“Incredibly deep and layered compositions that never ignore the 11th Commandment: “Thou shalt GROOVE!”
Jim Pugh (Trombonist for Steely Dan, Chick Corea, Frank Sinatra, Woody Herman)
