The Melbourne International Jazz Festival today announced that Sophia Brous will be departing the Festival after three years as Program Director.

Having held the position since 2008, Ms Brous will be stepping down to focus on other activities.

With Brous as Program Director, the Festival presented three critically acclaimed programs and cemented its position as a global leader in jazz programming, hosting artists as diverse as Sonny Rollins, Mulatu Astatke, Charlie Haden, Sun Ra Arkestra, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Faust, Charlemagne Palestine and the Laughing Clowns, and facilitated new collaborations and projects for hundreds of artists including Scott Tinkler, Jason Moran, Anthony Pateras, Megan Washington, Paul Grabowsky and the Australian Art Orchestra.

The 2012 program will be launched in March 2012, under the artistic direction of Michael Tortoni, who has been a Board Director of the Festival since 2002.
