Talented women jazz musicians are showcased at the Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival, which takes place at a number of city venues from December 7 to 17.

The first MWIJF was held in 1997 and the Festival has been a regular event on the jazz calendar ever since.

Performers include Elana Stone, Jess Green, Judy Bailey Trio, the Keller/Murphy Browne trio, Lisa Young, Michelle Nicole and Sextet – an ensemble of leading players that includes Sandy Evans, Fiona Burnett, Andrea Keller, Shannon Barnett, Sonja Horbelt and Belinda Moody. New York trumpeter Nadje Noordhuis performs as a guest with the group.

Special events include performances by Sydney vocalist Kristin Beradi and guitarist James Sherlock, and the Festival Superband, an ensemble made up of musicians from secondary schools and tertiary institutions.
