The Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival is seeking submissions from women jazz artists/band leaders/composers around Australia to be considered for the 2005 Festival.

Groups do not have to be all-female, but their focus should firstly promote female band leaders/composers/performers and should be of a jazz/improvisation nature. The festival dates are December 11-18 2005 and the closing date for submissions is July 31st.

The festival is also seeking submissions of big band charts from female composers and arrangers, to be performed by the festival ‘Superband’. This group is made up of outstanding female jazz students (mostly secondary, but some tertiary) and will be featured during the festival week.

The festival encourages any emerging artists to contact us regarding the presentation and promotion of new works.

Please send all submissions or correspondence to Sonja Horbelt at shorbelt@netlink.com.au or MWIJF PO BOX 7002 Banyule 3084 Victoria. With your submission please include a CD, a bio, a 25-40 word brief description and a bio photo of minimum 300dpi quality.

The festival has a website containing information about previous festivals and details of the 2004 festival at www.mwijf.org
