Brisbane’s most innovative contemporary jazz trio Misinterprotato are releasing their new record “IN IS IN”.
Featuring Sean Foran (Piano and Keyboards), John Parker (Drums and Percussion) and James O’Brien ( Electric Bass) the album features 10 original pieces.
Similarly to their critically acclaimed first recording “Now For the Free”, which was created in one day, the new CD was recorded over a two-day period in March 2005 with the trio playing live to capture their unique interaction. The trio move deeper into creating their own jazz trio sound emphasising space and interaction in their own compositions.
It’s been an exciting year for the group with performances at the World Expo in Aichi, Japan quickly followed by an invitation to attend the Banff Workshop for Jazz as part of the Summer Arts Festival in Canada http://www.banffcentre.ca where Sean and John have been performing and composing with world renowned musicians including Dave Douglas, Don Byron, Vijay Iyer, Jeff Parker and Greg Osby. They will perform the mainstage of the Calgary Jazz Festival before returning home to launch their stunning new album “In Is In” at QMF Cabaret in The Courier-Mail Spiegeltent (Russell Street, South Bank) on Sunday 17th July (presented by Queensland Music Festival in partnership with Jazz Queensland) and The Soundlounge, Currumbin on Friday 24th July.
“IN IS IN” pushes the boundaries as a ‘jazz piano trio’ record with the group utilizing distortion, modified piano, percussion and cello. With a sound influenced by contemporary European jazz, classic trios like Bill Evans and Amad Jamal and contemporary music of Steve Reich and atmosphere rockers Radiohead, Misinterprotato are already captivating audiences of jazz and non-jazz listeners alike. The new CD is focused and demonstrates true confidence in the material & arrangements. The young trio look to be reshaping the sound of trio jazz and boosting the profile for Brisbane contemporary music.
