ModularMurphy’s Law To Perform Award Wining Composition As Part Of Melbourne International Jazz Festival.

PBS 106.7FM in association with the Melbourne International Jazz Festival announce this year’s inaugural PBS Young Elder of Jazz Commission (YEOJ) winner is Tamara Murphy! The YEOJ Commission is a brand new initiative promoting innovation and excellence in jazz composition.

For the creation and presentation of her new work “Big Creatures & Little Creatures: The Modular Suite”, Tamara has been awarded $10,000. Along with this, she and her band will perform the composition as part of Melbourne International Jazz Festival on Saturday June 2 at Bennetts Lane. The performance will also be broadcast on Monday 4th June on PBS 106.7FM – on the program Black Wax. Hosted by PBS announcer Adam Rudegeair, this will be a chance to check out Melbourne’s coolest new grooves and hear from an ensemble featuring some of our finest instrumentalists.

The composition is an organic live performance experience showcasing the individual instrumental voices of the five-piece band – creating an elegant and compelling soundscape.

In recent years Murphy’s Law have established themselves as a group that draws from influences ranging from classic jazz to street art cool, from driving grooves to organic soundscapes.

"I'm absolutely thrilled and honoured to be the first recipient of the Young Elder Award – it's such a great opportunity to create new music which would not have been possible without it! I'd also like to thank PBS 106.7FM, Mark Newman of K2 Asset Management and the Melbourne International Jazz Festival." – Tamara Murphy
