Dick Letts, the founder of the Music Council Australia has just launched a new organisation, The Music Trust.

Its purpose: The Music Trust works with energy, imagination and authority to support music in Australia.

The initial activities:

·         The Freedman Music Fellowships: prestigious annual awards for a classical instrumentalist and a jazz musician

·         A concert series presenting Freedman Jazz Fellows

·         The Full Deal, a vigorous advocacy program for primary school music education

·         Development of the Music in Australia Knowledge Base, a  website unique in the world, so far as we know, in attempting to paint a picture of the music sector for an entire country

·         Research into music sector statistics and other matters

·         A national award for research demonstrating the benefits of a music education

·         Award of Australian Honours to music people

These two websites include monthly reviews of Australian music and books.

The Music Trust is aiming to do some important work for music. If Dick's track record is any indication, this is definitely one to watch.
