15 years of community. Program is launched and its really worth checking out.

The NOW now has been dedicated to Sydney’s community of creative outliers and underrepresented sonic thinkers for fifteen years.

It is a place to argue about the validity of new and old ideas and to refresh this community. In a city with so few forums for critical listening, it’s a vital part of our creative growth and experience for both musicians and audiences.

(Odd couples and founding mothers seen below)

For music lovers, the curious, people who love jazz but moved on, people that love the sound of fridges and expanded their reference points, punks and Prince fans, the profoundly curious and profoundly cynical – this message is for all …

The NOW now festival, after 14 consecutive years of high-quality, low-overhead, no-sell-out community badassness, has for the first time in nearly a decade, received no funding for the coming edition.

Not that funding is the ‘be all and end-all of making art’. It isn’t at all! But it certainly makes paying musicians possible.  We  don’t want the Now now to become a funding casualty.

When Now Now first announced that they had received no support, the musicians agreed to play, as we say, for the door. After dealing with venue costs and other overheads, this means that everyone playing at the NOW now 2016, is essentially donating their time.

Now now are organising an auction for the artists to raise money and help cover artist fees. To kick this off Douglas Kahn and Fran Dyson are contributing a collection of rare and über rare books and LP’s with a street value of a couple of thousand dollars. They have also committed a cash donation to support the festival.

You can support by adding items on auction, buying auction items or by making cash donations.

The auction will be hosted at the festival and online.

To make a donation, or add items to auction, please write to  clayton@thenownow.net.
