A new private grants program, the JB Seed, has just been introduced by John Butler.

The program is intended to support genuine artistic expressions and the grant categories selected are designed to explore and encourage the social, cultural and artistic diversity that exists in Australian society.

The grant programme is intended to be open-minded and “artist-friendly”, focusing positive outcomes.

As John Butler says on the new programme website: “The JB Seed has been a dream of mine (and the team I work with) for many years now and I am excited it’s finally breaking the surface and becoming a reality.

I received a few grants in the formative years of my career that gave me a great boost and invaluable assistance, and so I appreciate how significant this funding can be to an artists development, and long term goals.”

Funding categories are:

  • MULTICULTURAL ARTS PROGRAMME
  • MUSIC WORKSHOP AND PROFESSIONAL * DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
  • INDIGENOUS MUSIC PROGRAMME
  • MUSIC MARKETING PROGRAMME
  • SOCIAL ACTIVISM THROUGH THE ARTS PROGRAMME

Expressions of interest are being sought by 15th March 2005, for projects commencing after 1st July 2005.

John Butler and his team are to be highly commended for their vision in creating this new program. Applications up to a maximum of $10,000 will be considered in the first year.
