tim Firth Tim Firth

A quick interview with Tim Firth during a set break at the Spice Cellar (a great place for musicians and those aspiring to hang out in Sydney on a Thursday night).

JK:  How did this band come about?

TF: It was an accidental band, and I am an accidental band leader.  I love being a sideman, but I do have a passion for heavy metal. Winning the National Jazz awards and having to produce an album made me think about writing my own music.

JK: What do you love about being a sideman?

TF: I enjoy playing everyone else's music and they write so well. I have been a sideman with James Muller, Judy Bailey and many more. They let me play their tunes in my own way.  So I don't feel stiffled.  I also enjoy the low stress of not being a band leader.

JK: What can we expect

TF: I have a passion for heavy metal, so I have two guitar shredder music.

With that, Tim was back to the gig, so here's some more background.

After many years of being the sideman to some of Australia’s top jazz musicians, Tim Firth has assembled a stellar line-up to play his original music. Drawing from his two favourite musical styles, Jazz and Heavy Metal, this double guitar band combines ball tearing riffs and subtle melodies. Sharing the stage will be the legendary James Muller and the freakish new comer Carl Morgan on guitar and the main man to hold it all together on the bass, Brett Hirst.

James Muller: Guitar

Carl Morgan: Guitar

Brett Hirst: Bass

Tim Firth: Drums
