A women’s perspective in jazz. Hear interviews from the ABC from Sandy Evans and Alex Silver.

Each year, the Sydney Improvised Music Association run a course aimed at young women who are interested in a professional career in jazz.

The course hasĀ been running since 2001, with many of the graduates moving on to further jazz studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, NSW University, the University of Western Sydney, the Canberra School of Music and the Victorian College of the Arts.

Held at The Sydney Conservatorium of Music on Saturday mornings from July to September, 2011, the course is taught by some of Australia’s leading jazz musicians and educators: trombonist and course leader Alex Silver, bassist Zoe Hauptmann (pictured left), vocalist Jane Irving (pictured middle), guitarist Jess Green (pictured right), and pianist Monique Lysiak.
