A benefit concert is being staged at The Rainbow Hotel, Fitzroy, Melbourne on Saturday, July 22nd. from 4.00 p.m. for the much-loved late acoustic and electric bassist Stuart ‘Stewie’ Speed, who died in hospital recently at 40 from alcohol-related illness. He had performed with Kate Ceberano, Diana Kiss (with Ross Hannaford, Jex Saarelaht, Peter Jones and Ray Perreira), Renee Geyer, Vika and Linda Bull, and once with Billy Joel. His recording include “Open The Door” (with the Jex Saarelaht Trio and Kate Ceberano), the Kate Ceberano Septet, and Diana Kiss, amongst others. Those performing at benefit and memorial include Renee Geyer, Vika and Linda Bull, Tim Rogers, Mick Thomas, Ross Hannaford, and Jex Saarelaht, with proceeds going to asist Speed’s family in covering medical costs.
