Trilok GurtuFor those intrigued by the world of Asian music, professional drummers and percussionists will be treated to a master class with percussion legend Trilok Gurtu, renowned for collaborating with many of the world’s greatest musicians, including Annie Lennox, John McLaughlin, Jan Garbarek, Don Cherry, Dave Holland and Sting as part of the series of public workshops at Parramasala, Australia’s annual festival of South Asian arts.

World-renowned contemplative music composer and teacher, singer, artist and cultural visionary David Hykes returns to Australia’s shores after 23 years, to perform exclusively at Parramasala – and to offer a series of three not-to-be-missed workshops. Open to all participants, The Harmonic Vision: Music of the Spheres of Being – Mind, Medicine, Music and Meditation workshops will see this artist – who has collaborated with many luminaries including His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, the Gyuto Monks of Tibet and Yehudi Menuhin – share an unparalleled vision of the cosmological origins of music on Earth.

Music lovers can also discover the world of Dhrupad vocal music, in a workshop offered by two of the world’s leading practitioners of the Hindustani classical music tradition, the acclaimed Gundecha Brothers.

Sitarists, guitarists and students of Indian music will have the chance to gain insight into the complex constructions of works composed by Niladi Kumar, in a workshop led by the internationally acclaimed sitar virtuoso.
