An opportunity to join Sydney Improvised Music Association

The search continues as the Sydney Improvised Music Association (SIMA) seeks a new Artistic Director.

SIMA, which has been a key part of the Australian jazz scene for three decades, is looking for an innovative and energetic person to curate its varied program, made up of:

an international series

  • club gigs
  • a concert program
  • a regional festival (Berry Jazz Festival)
  • school and youth education programs

SIMA’s vice-president and former jazz critic for The Sydney Morning Herald and Rolling Stone magazine Peter Jordan says, “the search for a new artistic director comes at an opportune time.

“SIMA has recently reinvigorated its performance program to increase the profile of artists and develop new audiences for jazz.

“We now want someone with vision and an understanding of the jazz and broader arts scenes to help take SIMA to the next level, to broaden and strengthen its program and to initiate and develop relationships with other organisations and cultural institutions.

This is an exciting time to be part of SIMA and the ideal moment for the organisation to explore new directions.

SIMA encourages suitably qualified women to apply for this position.

Applications for the Artistic Director position is open until November 13 (5pm, EST). To download the position description and selection criteria, visit sima.org.au.
