BATMAN, the Muppets and Michael Buble have all done well out of Tim Davies' decision to leave Melbourne in 1999. He was a drummer on the run back then, taking leave from his 18-piece big band to get his foot in the door of the Hollywood Bowl.
Today he's one of the more ubiquitous orchestral arrangers and conductors in Los Angeles, with recent credits including Glee, Tower Heist, the latest Batman video game and Amy Winehouse's posthumous Lioness album.
''The great thing about arranging other people's music is that you don't have to justify it,'' he says. ''Somebody has already said, 'This is a good tune, we're going to pay you to arrange it'. It's something I always found very easy and enjoyable.''
