The judging panel of Michelle Nicolle, Graeme Lyall and Mike Bevan have evaluated the short listed ten applicants for the inaugural Dr. Wendy Wickes  Memoriam Jazz Scholarship. The panel of judges expressed their congratulations to all the short listed applicants. The level of musicianship and composition was truly outstanding.

After long deliberations the three finalists were chosen and JazzSA is proud to announce that they are:

Brenton Foster – Piano

Marty Holoubek – Bass

Nick Pietsch – Trombone

These fine young jazz musicians now have the opportunity to perform with the Mike Nock Trio    at the Space Theatre on Thursday, October 13th, 2011. The panel of judges chaired by Mike Nock will select the winner of the 2011 Scholarship valued at $5000 on that evening and award the outstanding winner the prize.

This first concert of an annual event promises to be the Jazz event of the year, as apart from the Mike Nock Trio opening the night, then the three finalists playing with the trio, Michelle Nicolle adding to the excitement of the evening, there will also be The Creole Room Revisited, a jam session for the many alumni of that Adelaide Jazz institution of many years, the Creole Room.

This is a tribute to Dr. Wendy Wickes, a stalwart of the Creole Room, a supporter of Jazz, and a promoter of young talent.

Bookings for this unique evening in Cabaret style can be made through the Festival Theatre and BASS.
