Aspiring jazz and blues artists are will be given a rare opportunity to jam with the greats at the upcoming inaugural Hervey Bay Jazz and Blues Festival.

Held from 7th to 9th November in the city famous for its humpback whales, the Hervey Bay Jazz and Blues Festival will see the Urangan Marina transformed into a fusion of some of Australia’s finest artists and the Bay’s most celebrated talent.

Top quality artists such as the Queen of the Noosa Jazz Festival Ingrid James, Melbourne’s The Hands and the formidable Society Syncopaters are among those headlining the Festival and delivering other musicians with a rare learning experience.

A series of Musicians’ Workshops will allow jazz and blues musicians to sit down and learn in a hands on setting that celebrates fine music and the art of performance.

The Festival will also feature a street carnival on Saturday that will include continuous free entertainment at the Seashift Street Stage, street performers and food and wine stalls.

The Festival will crescendo on Saturday night as the Gala Dinner offers Gavin Franklin, the Ingrid James Trio and the Society Syncopaters with a delicious meal in a one-night only event at The Boat Club.

An initiative of the Hervey Bay Council for the Arts and Hervey Bay Jazz Club, the Jazz and Blues Festival is the first of its kind to be held in Hervey Bay and one of the only Festivals in the country to offer workshops for musicians.

Hervey Bay Council for the Arts President Kerrie Marshall said it was important that the Festival offer an experience like no other.

“There is something truly special about having a large number of top quality acts playing in the one beautiful location.

“The jazz and blues community in Australia is strong and growing every day. What better way to ensure its continued development then by inviting developing artists to learn from the greats,” Kerrie said.

“We wanted to be sure that the Hervey Bay Jazz and Blues Festival not only offered stellar ticketed events but also allowed access to top quality performers to as many people as possible through the free Seashift Street Stage. …/2
