Take a spoonful of hot stuff and a big dollop of jazz – and what do you get? COOKIN’ AT THE BAKERY with the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra!

COOKIN’ AT THE BAKERY sees the WAYJO jazzsters are cookin’ up a storm with a night of freshly baked new sounds. On the tasty menu are original modern big band jazz sets flowing straight from WA’s hottest new jazz chefs – Mace Francis, Daniel Thorne, Tilman Robinson, Sarah McKenzie, Edd Fisher and Michael Wallace.

Expect soaring solos, great thumping rhythms and a belly full of bass – yes, a total phonic feast!

WAYJO encourages its musicians to push the boundaries of jazz and create new Australian music using jazz instrumentation and rhythms with distinctive Aussie flavours.

COOKIN’ AT THE BAKERY is a massive big band serving of the best new original jazz music whisked up by our jazz whizz kids. Taste and enjoy!

COOKIN AT THE BAKERY is a part of WAYJO’s 25th anniversary series of events – the WAYJO SILVER SERIES. Taking place throughout November, the WAYJO SILVER SERIES serves up a major big band blast to mark 25 years of supporting WA’s emerging jazz talent.

Internationally recognised as the hot bed of Australian jazz talent, WAYJO rigorously auditions young musicians, aged 15-25, every year in February. Competition for these places is fierce, with those selected representing the absolute cream of our state’s jazz talent. And now WAYJO hits 25 and has developed into an absolute powerhouse of jazz musicianship.

Perth’s vibrant live jazz scene is a testament to the power of WAYJO training. Almost every jazz, swing, lounge and big band now performing in Perth has current or past members of WAYJO, proving that the WAYJO experience works! Jazz talents Jamie Oehlers, Graham Wood, Troy Roberts, Mat Jodrell and Libby Hammer have all played their way through WAYJO.

The WAYJO SILVER SERIES is presented with the great support of WAYJO’s 25th anniversary partners Azimuth Financial Advisers and media partner, The West Australian.
