In its 30-year history, awards have included three MO’ Awards, Best Live Jazz Act, Australian Music Foundation, Best Performance of an Australian Composition, Australian Music Centre Awards. The group has performed in across Asia and invited the United State, including the Chicago Jazz Festival and the prestigious Kennedy Centre of the Performing Arts.

The ensemble brings together ten of Sydney’s most in demand jazz artists, which means their scarce performances are prized by music lovers and jazz aficionados alike.

Matt McMahon, John Pochee, Andrew Dickeson

John Pochee says of the group “With the return of original member, the great Bob Bertles, we will perform at SIMA with seven of the ten original members.  And three new members to salute our three departed members. Andrew Robson dazzles on alto while our newest member Dave Goodman’s interplay with star bassist Steve Elphick is the driving force behind the band”.

The group has been led with lively determination since its inception by John Pochee who formed the group to showcase the talents of Australian jazz improvisers and composers. Each member is an important voice in Australian jazz and collectively their individual personalities shine in sparkling performances. The group consistently prove their strength as a whole is indeed greater than the sum of ten brilliant parts.

Their coveted songbook is brimming with rare Australian repertoire composed exclusively for the group by luminary members past and present, amongst them (the late) Roger Frampton and (the late) Bernie McGann  as well as current members Sandy Evans; Andrew Robson and Miroslav Bukovsky.
