The 2008 Jazz à Vienne Sydney Festival is looking for our brightest young jazz stars,
and musicians and songwriters under 21 years old are encouraged to apply !

There’s a Youth Band Competition for groups and soloists, and a Jazz Songwriting
Competition for an original song with lyrics.

Both competitions boast a first prize of $1000 !

The organisers are hoping to attract entries from schools, private music academies and tertiary institutions.

The finals will be held in the middle of the second Jazz à Vienne Sydney Festival, taking place from October 11-19. France’s largest Jazz Festival has formed a partnership with Sydney to help foster jazz around the world.

Concerts in North-West Sydney will feature international artists from France and New Caledonia as well as local stars John Morrison, Jackie Cooper, Emma Pask, Dan Barnett and Adrian Cunningham.

The Festival’s focus this year is on youth – and we’re proud to feature 2 of Australia’s best young Big Bands : The Zooo Superbande and North Sydney Boys High Big Band. Also 4 teenage jazz students from New Caledonia will team up with some young local players to form a Pacific jazz group “Alliance”.

And what better way to encourage young musicians than these lucrative competitions which will help them plan their future in jazz.
