Bells09Started in 2003, The Australian Jazz Bell Awards recognise and encourage excellence in the performance, recording and presentation of jazz in Australia. In honour of one of the greats of Australian bjazz – Graeme Bell, MBE, AO – the Australian Jazz Awards are informally known as ‘the Bell Awards’.
Last year a monetary gift for the winner in each category was introduced, with prize money of up to $5,000.

Nominations for the 2010 Australian Jazz Bell Awards opened on January 1st. and the final cut-off date for nominations is Wednesday 10 February.
The 2010 Bell Awards nominees will be assessed by a panel comprising jazz critics or key
figures in the jazz industry, from Australia and overseas. The judges will then select a
shortlist of three finalists for each category, with the winners being announced at the Awards night, to be held at BMW Edge at Federation Square on Thursday, 15th. April, 2010, 6:00pm – 8:00pm.

Any interested parties are invited to nominate. Nominations can be made by anyone: the general listening public, musicians, record labels, managers. However, as assessment is based on the nominated CD release, ten copies of the CD in question must be provided (together with a detailed supporting statement) for the nomination to be valid.
